IS-SEOUL 2011 - Call for Abstracts Fifth International Symposium on Deformation Characteristics of Geomaterials (Aug. 31 ~ Sep. 3, 2011 / Seoul, Korea) Invitation The fifth International Symposium on Deformation Characteristics of Geomaterials - IS-Seoul2011 - provides a unique forum to discuss the knowledge of the complex deformation response in geomaterials. The symposium is prepared under the success of previous symposia: IS-Hokkaido 1994, IS-Torino 1999, IS-Lyon 2003, and IS-Atlanta 2008. The IS-Seoul 2011 will be an ideal place where you can exchange your ideas with colleagues via the discussions in the session, and the conference papers. The IS-Seoul 2011 will host the first Bishop Lecture sponsored by the International Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering (TC29) and provide an opportunity to publish peer-reviewed journal papers in Soils and Foundations . Experimental Investigations from very small strains to beyond failure • Advances in laboratory and field methods • Data interpretation and geotechnical imaging • Multi-scale problems in geomechanics • Advanced sampling • Behaviour at geotechnical interfaces II. Behaviour, characterisation and modelling of various geomaterials • Physical and numerical modeling • Anisotropy and localization • Time dependent responses • Special characteristics of particular geomaterials III. Practical prediction and interpretation of ground response: field observation and case histories • Integrated site characterization • Performance evaluation of geotechnical structures • New field methods of ground deformation measurement Abstract Submission Prospective authors of technical papers are invited to submit a 300-500 word abstract in English through the symposium website.
